I am wondering if any of you electric gurus out there could help me create a VTEC conroller using one of the RPM accesory ports on my PMS unit?
It is able to be set at any RPM and then conrols an output, heres what it says in the manual-
"The accesory ports complete a path to ground when ON, and are designed to operate solenoid-type relays (or injectors). The maximum current capacity of the switches, which are protacted by kickback diodes, is 1.0 amp each, so some devices may need to be controlled indirectly by a power relay.
I start having doubts about trying this alone after the first line or so.
Anyone got ideas of what to use and what whires to tap/splice into?
Zip? Rjaffey?

Turismo: guess what? The accessory outputs of my PMS doesn't work. I made a simple LED shift light and both outputs were dead.
Along this, my Interacq software Ver 1 wasn't perfect. I couldn't change the Stand Alone kick in points. Luckily, I was still w/in a year from purchase date and Paul at EFISYS shipped me Ver 2 for free. Now that works. However, the accessory output are still dead.
Since I live in the Philippines, I figured it's not worth the trouble sending it over to get it fixed. The shipping and tax will make it too expensive. Besides, I won't have a car to use. =)

Just go to your local stereo shop and buy a bosch type relay and socket (or instead of the socket use your own wire and female spade conn.). Wire accordingly:
The terminals will be numbered 85, 86, 87, 87A, & 30.
View of relay: - or | is a terminal (ignore o's):
ooooooooooooooooo- to VTEC solenoid(87)
ooPMS output(85)| - |to fused 12V+ source(86)
ooooooooooooooooo|to fused 12V+ source(30)
The middle terminal (87A) will not be used.
That's it! Good luck.

Kiersten,
You simply need to use a relay to flip the ground input to a 12v output. Call me at the shop tomorrow and I will walk you through it.

HAHAH its ok.. i understand what your saying haha..
Ok, so the VTEC solenoid needs to see a 12V to kick on? therefore, we are using the PMS to switch the relay (grounding?) so that the relay will switch 12v to the VTEC solenoid, correct?
The PMS isn't sending 12v to the relay, its grounding it right?
Also, I guess you'd have to disconnect the ECU 12v source to the VTEC solenoid? Otherwise you can only lower the vtec activation point and not raise it right? But wouldn't you get a code if you disconnected it?

You're correct on everything. I don't think the ECU monitors the VTEC solenoid being connected...I think. It might though. Test it out, disconnect it and find out.
Good luck. Tom
